A Poster in the Making

Most of you have probably seen the sweet Dexter inspired posters by Mattson Creative by now. They’ve been around the blogs for a while and are even on sale at Showtime’s official website.

What you have probably not seen is how the posters were made. Mattson recently published this cool time-lapse video where he gives us a glimpse at his screen while he works on the compositions in Illustrator. Hundreds of design decisions packed into a cool five and a half minute video. Love it!

So…after Lost finished I started to get into Dexter…and I have to say, I’m a big fan! I was so inspired that I decided to create one poster design for each season – highlighting the iconic moments from the show.

The Drawing Bryant

Illustrator Will Bryant collaborates with photographer Adam Voorhes to create a stop motion animation for the cover of Bluetooth’s quarterly publication Signature.

We incorporated the cover copy and the logo into the illustration and filled the cover with Will’s signature style.

The feel of the video reminded me of one of my earlier posts about Serge Seidlitz. Where is the wall you draw on?

Drawing Man

I stumbled upon this photograph the other day and it totally captivated me. To me it illustrates the act of creating and making in one photo. I love how the drawing occupies the whole wall and how the crop makes it seem endless. The fact that the artist in the picture and still drawing expresses the process, the craft, the skill and implies that there is no finish line. It’s always a process.

The artist in the photo is the talented illustrator Serge Seidlitz.

Car Sketching

Mikael Lugnegård of Lugnegård design is a talented concept artist and designer. In this video Mikael shares some of his car sketching techniques by allowing us to look over his shoulder while he works. The video is quite long but contains valuable advice for anyone wanting to increase their skills.

Be sure to check his website where Mikael shares his sketches and process renderings.
